Virginia is the government publishing consultant of choice on demanding projects that involve the coordination of many authors, complex clearance processes and hard deadlines. She has managed more than 3,000 government publishing projects since 1995.
Virginia has compiled a unique body of work at the policy intersection of economics, the environment and international relations. She has supported Australia’s public diplomacy on climate change issues since 1997. In 2007 she managed publication of the report of Prime Minister's Task Group on Emissions Trading. In 2008 she was lead editor and project manager for the draft and final reports of the Garnaut Climate Change Review. Since then, she has worked on Australia’s communications to the United Nations about climate change, the 2010 report by the Prime Minister’s Task Group on Energy Efficiency and the 2011 update of the Garnaut Climate Change Review. Her most recent project was the report of the expert panel on recognising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Constitution.
Virginia served as managing editor of the Canberra Bulletin of Public Administration from 1996 to 2001. In 1996, she was the principal editor of the Commonwealth Procurement Guidelines and has maintained an active interest in the area of procurement policy. She has an informed understanding of the policy development process, and a strong commitment to professional values.
An experienced teacher and trainer, Virginia provides the highest levels of quality assurance over editorial processes. She has an exceptional ability to turn a complex picture into a clear vision of what needs to be done, find the best people to do it and motivate them to do it well.
Virginia is a past president of the Canberra Society of Editors and was the inaugural chair of the council of the national Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd). She was one of the first editors in Australia to gain the qualification Accredited Editor (AE) and was a finalist in the 2003 Telstra Businesswomen’s Awards.
