Sasha Agafonoff

Sasha Agafonoff was introduced to WHH as ‘the most creative person I’ve met’ by the Chief Scientist of a software company.

Sasha went to school in Canberra, and both studied and taught at the Australian National University in the College of Law. He convened courses in expert legal systems and information technology law, and worked with innovative Australian firms such as SoftLaw/RuleBurst (recently acquired by Oracle) and Distillery Software.

Sasha has a legal background and extensive experience working with government. He understands expert systems, semantic web technologies and software development methodologies.  He is skilled in the use of many software applications and languages. Beyond an impressive array of ‘hard skills’ he has the gift of meeting people where he finds them and developing rapport and common purpose.

In our business, Sasha’s ‘soft skills’ complement the imagination, wit and humanity he brings to a 21st century reincarnation of the creative director role. He gets the people issues, the business issues, the technical issues at the leading edge of digital media – and the big idea that needs to be communicated effectively to create value.

This role doesn’t have an agreed name yet. ‘Creative communications engineering’ sounds like a joke, but it is a serious endeavour; and Sasha is a serious player with unique competence in relation to Australian government communications and publishing.

Around the world legislation, regulations and administration of public programs are increasingly being leveraged and executed through technology platforms.  Markets for government information differ in important ways from markets for fast-moving consumer goods or entertainment, and understanding how to fuse information with technology to deliver public good outcomes is a rare talent.

Sasha leads creative engineering for WHH from a physical location 11,251 km from our Canberra office. Living with small children as a diplomatic spouse has helped him hone remarkable skills as a virtual collaborator, as well as a unique set of language skills and cultural insights.

We look forward to involving Sasha in many projects that require 21st Century creative leadership. Working with him is fun, and he scores top marks on all three of the WHH key criteria for collaborators: ideas, action and results.
