Les Brown, publishing operations consultant
Les began his career as a hot metal lithographer with Fairfax Newspapers, and for more than 40 years has been actively involved in the technological revolution in the publishing industry. In the 1970s he transferred to Canberra to help introduce new technology at the Canberra Times.
He then set up Brown & Co. Typesetters to support the prime contractor for Australian Government advertising, Neville Jeffress. Over eight years, Brown & Co. never missed a production deadline. Les became a director of a joint venture with WHH, Brown & Wilton Integrated Publishing, established in 1997 to service a standing offer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
After Brown & Co. merged with a design firm, Les joined WHH to manage production operations. His capacity to keep many concurrent projects moving to schedule, deep industry experience and unerring eye for detail has been woven into the ways we do things at WHH.
In recent years Les has worked part time and been actively involved in transferring his skills and insights to younger employees.
