Jill Thompson

Jill Thompson brings genuine depth of experience in the mining, petroleum and water industries – where engineering is the dominant professional culture – to her practice as a human resources strategist, transformational educator and executive coach. One of her many gifts is the capacity to persuade people to take responsibility for the consequences of their own behaviour.

Jill received her BA from Monash and her MBA from Melbourne Business School. She worked as an executive with Rio Tinto, Shell and Melbourne Water. Her roles included strategic planning and human resources. For two decades she has worked in leadership and team development, mainly with the Mt Eliza Business School. Her practice has included recruiting senior executives and independent directors. Since 1999 Jill has partnered with Wilton Hanford Hanover in design and delivery of tailored transformational learning, coaching, program reviews and HR investigations and consultancies.

Jill’s experience as an executive, educator and consultant has made her extraordinarily intuitive in connecting strategic business performance issues with people issues, and envisioning people strategies that address those issues. She also brings a very wide, well-tried repertoire of techniques for helping individuals and groups reflect on and learn from their experiences.

Jill is a practical expert in evaluation, needs analysis and design of corporate programs to develop staff. She was, for example, WHH lead evaluator for the Defence Capstone (SES) leadership development program. She has also worked with WHH to benchmark career development and transition support strategies in leading technology companies; and in training facilitators for national learning networks to support industry improvement strategies.

Jill is trained in workplace mediation and conflict coaching. She is accredited in a wide range of psychometric and multi-rater systems, including Conflict Dynamics Profile, System for the Multiple Level Observation of Groups, Myers Briggs Type Indicator, Fundamental Interpersonal Relationship Orientation–Behaviour and the Team Management Systems family of instruments.

She is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has served as a director of not-for-profits such as Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Frankston Arts Centre.
